The
majority of pregnant women who have had genital warts in the
past but no longer do would be unlikely to have any complications
or problems during their pregnancy or birth. Most children are
born healthy to women with a history of genital warts.
If
you are pregnant and have genital warts,
there are a number of treatments that can be used during pregnancy,
though some of the prescription medications cannot be used while
pregnant ( Aldara and Condylox).
The
most common problem with genital warts and pregnancy is that
the warts can grow during the pregnancy. This is due to hormone
changes in the body during pregnancy. The warts can grow in
size and number making it difficult for a woman to urinate,
and bleeding can take place. Also a womans immune system can
get suppressed during a pregnancy which can make a woman more
susceptible to genital warts.
In
rare cases the genital warts have grown so large it makes delivery
harder. In very rare cases, babies who are born to mothers with
genital warts will develop the warts in their throats. This
condition is known as laryngeal papillomatosis. This is extremely
rare condition, but it must be mentioned because it can be a
life threatening condition for the child. |
